Early Childhood Educator
The Registered Early Childhood Educator is responsible for the development, delivery and evaluation of the care and education of the children ages 0-12 years of age. The role of the RECE includes the planning and delivery of inclusive play-based learning and care programs for children in order to promote the well-being and holistic development of children. The Registered Early Childhood Educator forms collaborative partnerships with children’s families that honour the family’s role as primary caregiver and respect each family’s composition, language and culture. The RECE demonstrates professionalism by participating in ongoing professional development and learning.
Core Competencies:
- Use a variety of observation and documentation techniques
- Facilitate cognitive, language, social, acceptance of diversity, emotional, creative and physical development of children
- Develop infant, toddler, pre-school, kindergarten, school-age and multi-age programs

- Maintain records for legislation and regulations (attendance, incident reports, cleaning records, ill health records, medical procedures and administering medication, safety checks, children’s records, daily logs for parents, program logs)
Job tasks:
- Reads and maintains individual children’s files and is knowledgeable about their medical and developmental histories
- Observes children to detect signs of ill health or emotional disturbance, and to evaluate progress
- Interacts with the children. They focus on the whole child and plan caring and creative learning opportunities that reflect individual learning styles. Through these learning opportunities, they foster the development of a child’s sense of self.
- Provides a warm, safe, and caring environment that is kept orderly, clean, and appealing
- Provides overall supervision of toileting and bathroom time
- Maintains ongoing developmental records for each child, including keeping records of all developing skills
- Keeps a “portfolio” of each child’s progress, including samples of their artwork, writing, etc.
- Communicate with parents on a daily basis through the use of daily sheets, notes and/or verbally
- Supervises, trains and utilizes assistants, volunteers and students
- Works with other staff members to form a positive, supportive team atmosphere
- Ensures confidentiality of privileged information
- Maintains adherence to all company policies and procedures
- Create a classroom environment conducive to learning and opportunities that encourage curiosity, exploration, and problem-solving appropriate to the development levels of the children
- Comes to work prepared to implement/participate in children’s indoor and outdoor experiences
- Model positive behaviour for both children and co-workers
- Include materials and experiences in the classroom that are culturally appropriate and represent diversity
- Maintain attendance records of children
- Participate in team planning sessions
- Work cooperatively and effectively as a team member by communicating and contributing information on a continuous basis
- Continue professional development through attending workshops, conferences and weekly site/agency meetings
- Maintain up to date knowledge of current child development practices
- Demonstrate behaviour that is professional, ethical, and responsible
- Arrange for appropriate staffing during absences
- Keeps current in practices in the childcare field
- Assist with other duties as requested by the supervisor
Requirements:
- Diploma or degree in Early Childhood Education
- A member in good standing with the CECE
- First Aid and CPR certifications
- Anaphylaxis training
- Negative 2 step TB test
- Negative Police reference check
- Doctor’s note depicting educator is in good health
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills
- Visible knowledge of CCEYA, Code of Ethics and Standard of Practice, CQI, How Does Learning Happen?, Jubilee Heritage Family Resources’ Vision, Mission, and Values, and Jubilee’s staff policies and procedures
Work Conditions:
- Manual dexterity required
